American Coatings Association (ACA) seeks a qualified candidate for a GL Accountant position within its Finance and Accounting Department. This position will be primarily responsible for working within the Accounting team, performing daily, monthly, and annual accounting and reporting duties for the Association and its subsidiaries, requires 3-5 years of accounting experience with a high level of attention to detail/accuracy. This position will be a member of the Accounting team working with an Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant, will be located in Washington, DC and will report directly to ACA’s Controller.

In addition to the parent organization, American Coatings Association, this position will also provide GL Accountant duties for ACA’s subsidiaries: PaintCare (PC), World Coatings Council (WCC), Graffiti Resource Council (GRC), AC Media and PaintPAC. Areas of Responsibility

  • Act as cash manager for all subsidiaries including reviewing bank reconciliations and posting reconciliation entries
  • Perform monthly duties in preparation for month end close, including booking journal entries, adjustments, deferrals, prepaid reconciliations
  • Validate accuracy of data from related systems into ACA’s financial system, Oracle NetSuite
  • Complete and document not-for-profit regulatory reporting
  • Support subsidiaries with required state annual reporting including developing custom financial reports and analysis
  • Complete estimated tax payments related to UBIT and other regulatory reporting as required by individual business units
  • Apply for and maintain sales tax exemption certificates, DCRA registration & management, DC Unclaimed Property Tax and DC Business Property Returns; work with Legal colleagues on business licenses and related documentation
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the Finance team: monthly/annual close, annual audits, state-specific compliance audits, finance & accounting team strategic planning, etc.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to increase efficiency of the Finance & Accounting team
  • May participate in various projects, either through formal assignment, or on an ad hoc basis

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or related business field; CPA candidate or designation preferred but not required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounts payable or general accounting experience is preferred
  • Strong computer skills in integrated financial and cloud-based applications
  • Proficiency with NetSuite or similar financial system is preferred; familiarity with Salesforce, Cvent,, online banking systems is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Knowledge and proficiency in general accounting procedures
  • Ability to work in a high transaction volume environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good research, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, members, and vendors

Location and Travel

This position is located at ACA headquarters in Washington, DC. Travel only occasionally required.
